INTRODUCTION & BRIEF

Culture & Environment

Ultimately culture is probably is the most important influence in our relationship with the environment. Cultures of the past have generally had great reverence for the environment, most likely because the enormity of the environment shaped the relationship they had with the world. In the past, cultures relied heavily on the immediate resources around them, the relationship they had with the environment was a key factor in how their culture developed. In the rise of modern civilised humanity, especially over the last 300 years or so, our interest in industry and technology seems to have overtaken the importance of our relationship with the environment, which has lead to the degradation of nearly every natural resource on the planet.

There is a small window of opportunity preserve the few remaining old cultures, that out of necessity, developed with a reverence of the environment that we cannot comprehend or truly. That same small opportunity is an opportunity for modern cultures to blend the respect those cultures had for the environment with the problems the environment and modern day humanity currently faces. Supporting and learning from the old cultures that have come before us is one of the keys to ensure the survival of not only the natural environment around us but humanity its self.

We have listed the following, initiatives and programs because we believe they are making a difference in bringing awareness to the world and helping to ensure the natural environment around us is still here to support us in the future.
